Learning to live with autism and regression!

Hi everyone,

I'm a 50 year old man with the heart and brain of a child. I was diagnosed with autism in my late 40's, and although it makes things in life understandable I'm still learning to cope with things, and hopefully the community can help me.

I do involuntary regress and live life like a 6 - 8 year old, and occasionally I regress as young as 2 or 3 years of age. I no longer try and hide my regression or autism any more, and although I have challenges i'm happy.

I believe we should simply embrace who we are, and show society we exist.

I don't make friends easily but I'm happy to chat with anyone via messages.

  • Hello Robbie, welcome to the forum.

I do enjoy a degree of regression to my teens and early 20s at times but I often find that this is only an escape from the challenges of adult life which can be a complete barsteward at times.

I believe we should simply embrace who we are, and show society we exist.

This is a nice utopian ideal, but we do need to be able to afford a place to live, food to eat, clothes, utilities and other costs just to survive in this captialist world. For now it is only a dream for most.

How would you create an environment where these things are not an issue? I think many here would love to do the same.

  • Thanks  ,

I suppose i'm lucky as i have a carer which allows me to be myself. So I spend much of my time being myself and spreading the awarness of autism.

Regression for me is not by choice as it's involuntary. Some say it's partly autism and partly truma, but nethertheless i'm happy as me.
