Loneliness and Social Interactions

Hi everyone,

I've spent large part of my life feeling...odd. By my 30s I accepted that whatever I was, it was my fate to be somewhat isolated and kind of looking through the peephole.

I do love solitude, silence, and a black and white environment (I mean it as a metaphor for peaceful.) but never understood why, and why group-behaviour or norms felt unnatural to me.

A few people in my life-journey have suggested that maybe I was bipolar, or bohemian, or autistic.

Being pretty focused on my own things, I simply disregarded those theories.

Now a psychologist said this maybe the case, that I am autistic according to her analysis.

Tests are slow to arrive to, so I'm waiting.

Anyhow, I recently read that autistic people tend to find communication with other autistic peers easier.

This made me curious as to some chat-platforms where users are either diagnosed, or suspicious of being autistic.

However, I'm unsure whether there are any interesting, and safe spaces for chatting, not only threads in a forum like here, but more like instant messaging (like Discord or other IRCs, or Matrix etc.)

Any ideas? Any platform that you used? Or did you give up?

  • You can do various screening tests yourself and get immediate scores if you want. Look on embrace-autism.com

According to a recent interview with Francesca Happe she said more research is needed on communication. While autistic people communicated well when they knew the others were also autistic since they had something in common, when they didn't know it seemed just as awkward. Miscommunication can occur between anyone, I think the big issue is whether you can pick up on it and then query it without changing the subject or going quiet.

I don't have any particular recommendations.
