Hi,

I’m looking for advice on how i can help my daughter (Autistic), she is getting so distressed about her hair being perfect, no strands can be remotely showing and no bumps at all. Can anyone recommend something I can use? She hates hairspray and the daily hair battle is turning into meltdowns and being late for school everyday.

    I am not an expert at all but I can recommend Phillip Kingsley, Percy and Reed and Sea Magik brands. Do bare in mind again not the cheapest but I do think it’s worth looking into x

    Yeah she has really long hair she does have a trim every 8 weeks at the hairdressers. She absolutely hates her wispy baby hairs at the front and back so I am going to try a gel spray and see if she can tolerate the feel of it.

    Thank you for the advice I will buy one of the brushes you suggested at this point I will try anything!

    So her hair is quite long then? I'm a hairdresser or used to be, and I was always terrible at hair up styles, but hair is easier to work with if its not newly shampooed, maybe the day that it's shampooed would be a good day to wear it in a pony tail and then the next day try the plaits. 

    Does she go to a hairdresser to get her hair trimmed? Hair needs to be in good condition to not stick up or drop out of plaits, putting to much tension on he hair will make it snap and then it will have bits that won't stay in place. Her hairdresser will also be able to advice on the best shampoo's and conditioners for her hair.

    I've always used an old fashioned Denman hairbrush that has no bobbles on the ends, bobbles trap knots in the hair and encourage you to pull it which breaks the hair. A smooth bristle will let the hair slip free and not trap knots, they can be bought for about £10 from most supermarkets and places like boots. They're worth the investment, I've got several people using them now who swear by them.
