Advice on funding legal cost to advocate for my autistic child

Hi everyone, I’m a parent looking for advice on where I might share my fundraising efforts to help cover ongoing family court costs. My son is nine and autistic — he was diagnosed at Guy’s and St Thomas’ — but his diagnosis is being misunderstood and dismissed in the family court process. I’m his primary carer and I’m trying to protect his stable, safe home and make sure his voice is properly heard. He masks his difficulties, which means the huge impact this is having on his mental and physical health is not being fully seen by professionals. I feel desperate to get him the understanding and protection he needs right now. I’d really appreciate any advice on where else I could share this or who I might reach out to for support. I won’t post the link here, but any ideas or experience would mean so much. Thank you.

  • The forum rules here prohibit us from offering legal advice which is what I suspect you need here, so I would recommend trying to find a lawyer who is experienced with advocating for autistic children since they will understand what is the most effective approach in todays legal system.

It is unlikely to be cheap as I suspect you are aware.

In terms of sharing the link with a community that may be willing to help - have you considered mumsnet.com ? It isn't specifically for autism but for parents in general and they have an active discussion board which may allow you to post the link (I haven't checked the rules I'm afraid).
