Hi new here!

Hi guys I’m new here.

I’m 25f and I got diagnosed with autism last year and I also have eupd and struggle with ptsd. My main interests are video and computer games and I also like to do some sort of art and crafts based on the games. If I’m not doing any of that I find being in the peace and quiet of nature very soothing, but my lack of confidence and self esteem stops me or at least reduces me going out as much. I also enjoy watching some tv shows on streaming services and I enjoy a variety of films too.

I've always struggled to fit in where ever I go, been very badly bullied since nursery and I’ve tried volunteering but that turned out very badly and what caused the ptsd. When I got diagnosed it seemed to make sense as to why I think and act the way I do but I just wish I was able to move on and not cling on to the past and traumas etc but it’s easier said than done.

Hope to chat again soon Relaxed

  • Hello.

I think the way to move on is to keep moving forwards and not get stuck.

This can be learning new skills, doing something new, visiting somewhere new, trying different foods, going to a new shop, etc.

Obviously there's a desire and need for routine, for stability and the comfort of what you know (even if bad), but creating new routines, memories and opportunities is what reduces the impact of the past. It gives your brain other things to think about. You also find some better things. Lol

Maybe not everything goes as well as hoped, but things can be learned form this and applied to the future.

You have to recognise and celebrate even small wins. I don't do this enough.

If you write stuff down as you do it, you'll be surprised how much you can do. Your mind remembers and places more weight on  negative things than positive, so you have an inbuilt bias. Seeing the true picture helps to stop you feeling stuck.

  • Hi, thank you for replying. And thank you for the advice. It will be easier said than done for me but I will try new things and going new places etc. I have only moved to a new flat so I guess the move has made me less settled but will be going the shops for furniture and pics etc! Yeah when things don’t go as planned that’s when I can’t help but focus on the things that “failed” if that makes sense. I am a real perfectionist so need to do something. Thanks for all the advice

  • That's why I said to note down all the successes and things that have been changed. You will see progress and that will help to counteract the focus on the failures and keep things in perspective.
