Hi everybody!

I was diagnosed in 2000 at the age of 11, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to join this forum. I've had a quick look around, and it seems like a nice place (the Doctor Who forum I used to be active on got really toxic).

Anyway, besides autism, I have depression and anxiety following a nervous breakdown nearly ten years ago. I've struggled, but held on with the help of friends and family and my brilliant doctor, and I became an author just over a week ago.

My big coping mechanisms are writing and playing video games, but I also enjoy films (especially old ones), have a wide taste in music, and love astronomy and history.

  • Hi PJWhittaker. Good to have you here and welcome. Sounds really interesting that you’ve become an author. What type of things do you write about? I’m a big writer myself but not managed to finish anything up to press. I’m a big fantasy fan especially epic stuff. Also into PC games mainly strategy and RPGs. History is another big interest, particularly enjoy Roman republic era.

  • Hi, White_Dragon. Roman history is fascinating. I write science fantasy (science fiction with a lot of fantasy elements mixed in that have a psudoscientific explanation) with quite a lot of humour as Terry Pratchett is a big influence. My book is set in a universe that has been broken by a mad scientist's experiment, and two neurodivergent sisters living in Edinburgh find themselves at the heart of a sinister plot involving an invasion from another dimension.

Here's the blurb: 'Madeline Pembroke’s universe has been altered, time and space shattered and reassembled in less than the blink of an eye. Fiction is fact, strange extraterrestrials draw power from the plot holes and writing errors on the pages they inhabit, and mythical creatures run fast-food empires.

To make matters worse, she’s being hunted by abstract entities from another dimension.

Can her friends—her anarchic sister, an apelike alien, a well-meaning zombie, the well-meaning zombie’s mean-spirited cat, a rowdy dwarven prince, and a pair of unappreciated scientists—save her and the rest of the universe from a threat of everyone’s making?'

Strategy and RPGs are two of my favourite game genres. My favourite game is Oblivion, and I really like the Total War games, especially Warhammer Total War.
