Ah I understand now thanks for the explanation I can imagine that is quite a thing…
Hey White_Dragon. It's another neurological quirk. It means that when I hear music I see colours. There are lots of differing forms of synesthesia, best way of describing it I think is a fusing of senses in response to an external stimulus. Thanks for the welcome.
Hi and welcome Matt, good to have you on board. I’ve no idea what music to colour synesthsia is? Excuse my ignorance
Hey Lotus. Thankyou for the welcome!
Nice to virtually meet you too!!
Hey Roy. Slight confession. One of my long term special interests/obsessions is a band called Nine Inch Nails. Somewhat Damaged is the title of one of their songs. It is however also a fair descriptor of auty experience in a neurotypical world on occasion.
I have prof. Makes me very frustrated because I can't get it how I want it.
Thankyou Evi, nice to virtually meet you
Hey Somewhat damaged!
As a former music composition professor, I find musical synesthesia to be one of the coolest things ever. Have you ever considered painting what you see?
Yes, I heard that most of synesthetics also have ASD, ADHD or if not the dx- they do fit the diagnostic criteria. Your profile name reminds me of my very old thoughts that I had as a teenager and used to walk alone around the city and tried to analyze and understand what’s wrong with me.
Hey, thankyou for the welcome. That sounds hectic, and also a lot like synesthesia. It comes in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. It's also much more common in autistic people than neurotypicals
Hi welcome to the community! I wish you find here support. I often find myself in some else’s posts it’s also kind of helpful to me. I taste words and languages and also see their colors, not sure if it’s synesthesia but I heard that it’s “interesting”. I found it hard to concentrate on math at school because numbers taste like fruits, so I had a fruit salad during algebra lessons. Doing good at geometry though.
Thank you!
Hi Matt - congratulations on your diagnosis and welcome to the community!
There are a lot of other late-diagnosed people here (including me, for example), so it's a great place to share your thoughts, connect with others, and/or just to pick up tips and learn by reading others' posts.
In case you haven't yet seen them, the NAS has a great set of articles focused on "after diagnosis", including one covering how you might feel during the subsequent days / weeks / months. You might find them of interest and/or helpful:

Therapy (or counselling) is often recommended after a diagnosis, as a follow up action for your GP to arrange. In anticipation of that, you might find it helpful to borrow or buy this book, which includes discussion of various types of therapy and counselling, together with advice on choosing the right therapist or counsellor - all from an autistic person's viewpoint. Several of us here have found it very helpful:
Welcome to the forum! I think, this is a good place to start your journey of the many ”Ooooh“s.
