Hi Holly97 welcome to the forums .looking at your reply to Lotus you talk about Romans, is this something you are interested in? I am a big fan of ancient history especially the Roman republic…..I think Origins had the romans in it sorry to be pedantic
Hi, thank you so much Lotus. I love the Sims 4, it’s my fave of all the Sims games. And I love every Assassins Creed game I’ve played, Odyssey is my fave because I love Romans and the whole environment/map on that game was visually stunning. It’s always been my fave. Have you played the latest game yet? I think it came out earlier this year, I still need to get it.
I hope you enjoy chatting with us.
I’m already enjoying being here so much. Had a bit of a rocky start when I signed up with my real name! I had to contact the community manager who luckily was more than understanding.
Hi and welcome to the community. I'm a woman in my sixties and I enjoy reading and playing video games. I see from your profile that you like Sims and assassins creed games - I also like Sims 4 and Assassins creed Odyssey, Origins & Valhalla.
I hope you enjoy chatting with us.
wouldn't it be great if most therapists who work for the NHS had Autism awareness training?
When I saw support workers from NAS they said they were trying to get Autism awareness training as part of NHS training for some staff. It would be useful as a lot of doctors and nurses don't know about it at all.
One of the concepts of this forum - as I see it - is to build a community. One of the key elements here is to try and put back in some way. Perhaps to come and get help when you need it, and give advice when you feel okay & see someone struggling. That seems to resonate with the ethos you've explained.
I would like that. I like to help give back to people. I won't go too much detail here, but a couple of years ago I was depressed and not in a good place at all, and a complete stranger spoke to me and stopped me from doing something bad and thanks to him I am here today. Just his bit of time and help saved me.
I've never forgotten that.
Not sure my advice would be any good but I'm always happy to lend a listening ear and offer support if it's needed.
I feel like we need more professionals like this. All the professionals I have seen weren't especially helpful when it came to Autism
This is generally true. Many people feel the same. There are some out there but their skills are in high-demand and wouldn't it be great if most therapists who work for the NHS had Autism awareness training?

Hello. Thank you for the welcome and for such an informative and understanding post.
The isolation is unbearable at times but I try not to focus on it. I try to keep busy with creative writing or by doing something I'm interested in, I'm still alone but it offers a good distraction for a time.
The lack of support for adults is frightening TBH but I'm hoping one day, if I can overcome my anxious demons I want to become a therapist who specialises in Autism/Aspergers so I can help other adults and young people. I feel like we need more professionals like this. All the professionals I have seen weren't especially helpful when it came to Autism.
Thanks for the URL page, this will be helpful. I've also had a look at the NAS sites advice and guidance section which has also been informative and helpful.
Thanks for welcoming me, the kind words, and for the help. It's overwhelming (in a good way).
Isolation is a common theme here, but (hopefully) joining us will make you feel less so.
I do realise there's something almost paradoxical here. Autistic (or indeed Aspergers) people are in such a small minority and think in such a different way that they quite often DON'T want to associate with NT individuals as past experiences show it often doesn't work. However, the isolation can be unbearable.
Many come here saying there's not a lot of support available in their local areas post-diagnosis too.
However, it isn't all bad news. If you post or comment here, someone nearly always answers. If you want a conversation, you'll probably get one - and people do strike up friendships.
The Autism services directory does have details of services in all parts of the country should you ever wish to take a look at it

Going to the HOME screen will bring up the most recent posts, and you can always take a read of those, and add your thoughts to get started.
Again welcome.
