Hello, just joined, late diagnosis man

Hi,

I'm 52 and was diagnosed about 3 years ago I think after a lifetime of social anxiety and feeling like I was on a different wavelength to everyone else, like I didn't see the instruction manual. After seeing many psychiatrists over the years one asked if I'd looked into Asperger Syndrome. As soon as I started reading forums I instantly recognised what they were saying and how they said it, it was like a bolt of lightening.

Since then I've changed a bit, stopped dating, and also not socialising as much when I don't want to. Now looking to connect with others like me and hopefully get some good advice too :)

I don't know how it happened but I've been assigned a random profile name, is there any way to change this?

John

  • Welcome John to the forums

  • Thanks Lotus, I'll have to do a pic when I have a mo.

  • I was happy actually Veronica. I think it was firstly because it explained a lifetimes worth of confusion over what was going on, it was really stressful and upsetting not understanding why I was different since I was about 6 I'd say. But also it meant that it wasn't all my fault and I wasn't a failure. Was it like that for you too?

  • Hello! I'm gonna cry. Thank you so much. Like welcome to mother ship

  • Hi! When you found out where you happy? Mad? Couldn't identify how you were feeling? Joy

  • Hi and welcome, I'm much in the same boat. It's funny how things turned out.
