What would your dream life be?

What would everyone's dream life be?

Mine would be a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, away from everyone (apart from family), plenty of space, fields, stables etc

and to spend the rest of my days rescuing neglected animals of all types and showing them what love/care actually is...

A little safe haven for all the abused and neglected animals where they can run and play, be with their families without being separated or hurt everyday.

I've dreamed of this my entire life and I like to think some day I will achieve that goal. Animals have been kinder and more understanding than most people have been toward me.

I feel like I can read animals better than most humans and cannot stand to see ANY of them mistreated.

Since I was a child I've wanted to save every single animal in horrid situations and bring them home with me. As I've gotten older, I have wanted it more and more, my Mum said it was a phase but 25 years later, I'm still heart set on achieving it... some day! Slight smile

  • My main goal is to become the greatest software developer I can be.

For the future, I wanna save some money and buy a small farm with my wife (in Brazil we call these "chácara"), if necessary or still loving programming, keep working while living in a green environment!

  • I love the sound of your dream life - it sounds wonderful! It’s a nice subject to think about. For myself my dream life would involve having a really charming smallish house with a large garden, situated towards the edge of a rural village. I’ve always dreamt of living in a home that had views out the back of a field that had several horses in it. Just myself, my husband and my son would live in this house and we’d have enough space to spend time on all our favourite pastimes like drawing and painting, reading, sculpture etc. Baking beautiful bread and cakes. Making ceramics. And we’d have quite a few pets - 2 long haired sausage dogs, Guinea pigs and rabbits, rare breed chickens. Maybe pigmy goats and a couple of Shetland ponies. Enough money not to have to worry about paying for food and heating - with a bit left over for trips to the coast or into the local town to go to bookshops and go out for a meal now and again. Lots of freedom, lots of time. I’d like to spend more time gardening too. Some friendly neighbours - but quiet people themselves so not overly talkative or intrusive. A quiet life in a quiet place! And maybe a really good fish and chip shop and a really good Chinese takeaway not too far away! Oh - and a real fire in a big old ancient fireplace - and an endless supply of firewood. And a lot of birdsong, and both Tawny Owls and Barn owls regularly spotted near my house! And the sound of skylarks when I’m sitting in my garden in the sunshine.

  • Of course, everybody has different preferences and I think yours sounds lovely with the exception of shopping and tech!

I hate being surrounded by people at every turn, it makes me very uneasy and technology is not my friend lol but I am in no way putting your comment down! I really like imaging the cottage in the country with your horses and dogs! Slight smile

** also I think I overestimate myself in terms of what I could manage, I would love to save every animal in the world but also have to take into consideration my illnesses and how they would limit me and the knock on effect of perhaps doing more harm than good! I think I'm still in denial that I'm not as well as I used to be. The replies on this post have made me take that back into consideration and grounded me.

  • I have a few.. Thinking

I'd love to live in a modern-ish cottage on a smallholding with a pale pink front door and Georgian barred sash windows, there's a smallholding near where I live which I have always dreamed of having! (..but it has recently been sold off to build houses Broken heart) It would have an American style letterbox at the end of the driveway and white painted fencing around the land. I'd have a super fancy pastel kitchen with an island in the middle so I can bake, and I'd have a few alpacas too to look after. Se;;i and caring for my livestock would be my job. - and I'd have the cutest little hobby room for my colouring, reading (and a little gaming). I've just always wanted the cosy country life.

On the other hand, I'd love to live on a cul-de-sac with my close family as my neighbours, so we could all see each other all the time! Sweat smile

However, bottom line, I'd just like to be happy and comfortable Slight smile

  • My dream has been to live almost off grid but with a few creature comforts. A nice small holding with a few quirky animals and as basic an existence as you could imagine and away from all the pressures of modern day life.

  • Of course! Cat women stick together lol.

I love that, it sounds so wholesome and peaceful.

Somewhere safe to just exist and do what you love.

  • I love this! Sounds perfect...&cosy Slight smile

  • No ofence but this sounds like my idea of hell. No I think I would like to spend my days doing mad sciene in hi tec labs and my evenings partying hard with extroverted nerds with energy and a zest for life.

  • Its a very good question. I would quite like living in a wizard's tower like Isengard if that was possible in this scenario, if not a small castle would also be ok. I would have my own personal space, with maybe one of those librariys where you have to climb up ladders to get to various books. Maybe a scrying ball, like a palantir but without Sauron lurking that way I could keep an eye on things and speak to others from afar a bit like teams. Family on hand in the tower but would not be able to enter my study as it would warded so they could not find it. No work to do and maybe a magical brush or something similiar that did all the tidying up. I don;t mind doing the cooking. Can spend writing and researching books. A proper food delivery service, where things can be properly specified as per my requirements. Not sure about location, somewhere in North Yorkshire would be nice maybe on the coast.....

  • I think it varies area to area. I know some people who had a lot of difficulty getting broadband.

I'm not a tall person so that would never be an issue Joy. I don't know what it is about beams but I've always loved houses that have them.

I'd want to be away from most humans but as I say I'd need some to help me maintain my dream life but also I would want to be able to venture into civilisation when I needed to.

  • You do get internet in the country, we have quite fast internet, they've just installed fibre optic cables. We even have at least 4G mobile coverage and you can get sky tv, although cable is very limitied, we even get shopping delieverd to remote places!

I'd like to be away from other humans, not hear their noises or smell their smells.

I wouldn't want beams, being tall I'm always worried I'll scalp myself on them, but I don't like those huge double height spaces either that you see on so many property programs with a lot of them I end up thinking 'what do you want all that space for?

  • As a child what you've described would absolutely be my dream life.

But as an adult I know full well I haven't the capacity to lead that life. I love animals but I couldn't care for them completely myself and as much as I like the idea of being remote, I would struggle with things like shops being far away.

So I'd like to live somewhere countrysidey with a nice cottage with the traditional beams etc. I'd need it to be close to somewhere more built up that I could go for shopping etc though so those things didn't become too much effort. I'd also like it to be within driving distance of the sea. I'd like to have horses and dogs and perhaps some other animals but I would need there to be people that helped with their care.

I do also enjoy and rely on tech so I couldn't live anywhere too remote in that respect either.

  • Can I come too?

A smaller place would do for me, I've not the strength or energy for lots of animals anymore, but I'd definately want a nice garden for me to play in, to grow my own food, have chickens etc. I'd also want a dedicated library and a kitchen built to my design.

  • A well insolated fairly remote smallholding (I don't like being cold) with ducks, goats and rescue dogs. Decent broadband would be great and enough money not to have to worry.

Is it too much to ask?
