Hi I’m parent carer to an 8 year old with high needs. I am finding it very isolating as my family have stopped contact due to my child’s disability. I am trying to attend classes but really miss work. How do I retrain and find out what I want to do? I can’t go back to law as I can’t secure a part time position and have been out of work for many years. I feel so stuck .

I would imaging that with such high demands from your child you won't have much free time whch does make a conventional job a real challenge. I believe most law firms are very demanding of their staffs availability too which is a bit of a double whammy here.

However, if you think a bit laterally you may be able to find some other types of work.

How about working as a legal document translator. You may need to get certified in your language skills in both languages but there is a good article on it here:

I don't know the specifics but I imagine you could contract out to a translation agency or do it freelance.

It could be one of the ways to leverage your skils that is not bound to office hours.
