Introduction

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 22 in August of 2024. At first it felt weird but didn’t change a whole lot, but as time has gone on I find myself questioning every little decision or thought and wondering if the autism has something to do with it. I wouldn’t say I’m “struggling” with it but it’s affecting my mental health, and I’m not sure where I can go to talk about it. Apologies if this is a messy post or if its too much information, I just wanted to get it out my head.

I find myself questioning every little decision or thought and wondering if the autism has something to do with it.

I find it helps to think - does this actually make a difference.

Being autistic is a permanent state so whatever you do or think may or may not be influenced by autism, but does it change the fact you made that decision or thought the thought?

You can't change being autistic although you can mask and pretend you didn't think it, behave how you think you should etc.

But with thoughts you cannot mask them - they are part of who you are so embrace them as the true authentic you.

I’m not sure where I can go to talk about it.

Right here on this forum - you will see many people struggling with similar issues but we are all different so it sometimes helps to detail what is troubling you so some more targetted ideas can be sent your way.

We can be an eclectic bunch as is the way with a spectrum condition like autism but many will have the same life experiences as you in at least some areas and we can offer help or just shoot the breeze with you when you need to vent.
