Just an introduction

Hello! I was diagnosed in October after a long stint with CAHMS and several therapists. I have bad emotional dysregulation, and am terribly sensitive to noise and touch, as well as simply the presence of others in my vicinity. Since my diagnosis, I've had a bit of a journey internalising that I am in fact autistic, and it feels like a bad movie every time I have a flashback to my childhood and go 'huh, that was totally the autism!'. In some ways I feel like I have been failed by those around me - in part because of the long time it took for the suggestion of autism to even crop up, and because I can now recognise the autistic traits in my family members. But mostly, I'm excited to talk to people who I can finally relate to.  What are people's favourite songs? What movies do you like? Any interesting special interests? Any fun experiences related to autism?

  • Hi again, Netsukeinro! Sorry I

I don't really think I have a favourite song since my music style is so diverse depending on the moment or what I am feeling, but I'd say that right now some of my favorites are Sword from the stone - Passenger, This mess we're in - Pj Harvey and Thom Yorke and Ridiculous thoughts - The Cranberries.

One of my special interest is, in fact, music. I have almost a hundred playlists (from blues to heavy metal, reggae, pop, country, classical...) I play the guitar and I am recently playing the piano again. I love to sing, I think it's part of my stimming.

Of course right now another special interest is autism and last but most enduring throughout the years is any form of activism really, fighting for the rights of people and animals. Oh and biology!

I have to say, I think my special interests vary from time to time. I don't know if this happens to anyone else too or they have fixed special interests! Interesting topic though.

    Much greetings! :)

  • Hiya!

I don't have a specific genre that I focus on in particular, I just like whatever song appeals to me most do my playlist is all over the place I can go from Ke$ha to Britany spears to Queen to Kendrick Lemar XD

I love Disney films, especially the older 2D Disney films.

I think my special interests would be Disney, crochet and history (i like watching historical videos, documentaries and podcasts on any history that interests me)

  • Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'm a woman in my sixties and in my youth I taught myself to play guitar and enjoyed lots of great music by artists & bands including David Bowie, Pet Shop boys, The Clash, Adam & The Ants, Eurythmics, Queen, Frankie goes to Hollywood, The Police, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, Human League, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Blondie, Japan, & New Order.

I've always loved reading and I enjoy novels in various genres, including sci-fi, fantasy, time travel, historical fiction, romantic comedy, thrillers and post apocalyptic stories. I'm retired now so I can read every single day Slight smile

My favourite movies include Ghostbusters 1 and 2, the first Star Wars Trilogy, Men in Black, Independence Day, Trading Places, Catch me if you can, Blade Runner, Mortdecai, The Tourist, and pretty much anything starring Will Ferrell or Brad Pitt.

I don't have any interesting special interests, but I do have one which is unusual for a woman of my age, as I like to play some video games. I'm currently playing Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

  • Hey and welcome to the community! Slight smile

I’m glad you have found a place where you can relate to others. Like you, I’ve had a history with mental health services, but since my diagnosis last year, I have been able to understand how my brain works and how I process things, whereas before I just felt like a flawed person who failed at everything.

So my favourite song is probably Cai.ro - addict . My favourite artist though is someone called Ren.

My special interest and hobby is Lego. A very expensive one at that!

I’d love to say I’ve had a fun experience related to autism, but I haven’t to be honest. Although a good experience is being part of this forum and connecting with others!

I’d love to hear your favourite song/interests etc!
