Hi

Hi I'm Sk8r Girl. Big fan of Avril Lavigne! I have autism and have been finding life more increasingly difficult as my parents are older and there's been more change than I can handle in recent years.

I'm interested in too many things to list but some of my faves is music, watching movies, swimming, soft toys, reading, Lego and animals to name a few. I love animals they are always so nice to be around. I like to think if I wasn't crippled with anxiety I might have become a vet Blush

  • Welcome!

I remember liking her, twenty years ago, before I progressed to more obscure music.

My cat, Hope, is my guiding light. She's Nineteen Months Old. I'm learning so much, about myself, looking after her.

  • Hello. I used to skateboard when I was younger. Lots of fun. Also tried teacher training. But this was before I was diagnosed so it didn’t go well.

  • Thanks I hope it won’t take too long.

That’s good your work is going well. I think it’s so important to be happy and enjoying your job. I find teaching and working with little kids is such an amazing thing to do, I always feel so happy at work; I now know it’s something I will always love and want to do. Do you think you will always work in teaching?

You could do with a pool in your back yard (I need one too)… There is a local community pool nearby me and I do swim there usually once a month if possible but there’s always a lot of other people about and it triggers my anxiety bad so I don’t get to swim for long. One day I would like my own house, with my own swimming pool and then I would swim daily again.
Do you like Thailand? I haven’t been there before but it looks neat.

I love both dogs and cats but as you experienced I find my cat does wander off sometimes for days or weeks and I always get the worrying that something terrible has happened and then she’s back again like old times. My German Shepherd was very loyal and friendly, never went anywhere without me or my family and was always super happy to see me. My cat is pretty lazy lol so doesn’t travel much Smile but when she does she can be gone a long time.
I hope when you are in your own place you can get your dog! If I ever get to live in my own place I'll also get a dog again, I miss my old one so much and they are such good friends to have around x.

Your music tastes sound interesting Blush I mostly listen to pop like Avril and Taylor Swift. I don't know much classical music though I do like Il Divo, think their music is just fabulous. I mostly listen to CDs or Youtube, though I do listen to a lot of podcasts as well and sounds to help me sleep as I struggle a lot with my sleeping at times.
Your D&D campaign sounds cool. I used to love D&D, I recently completed my D&D Lego set.

I do a lot of reading if I'm not too exhausted. I worked today, this afternoon and feel wrecked now, lol, so I won't do any reading tonight. Normally if the book title sounds interesting or the cover looks special then I will give a book a try.

I'll send you a quick message now. Happy to chat with you! Have a nice afternoon.

    Slight smile

  • That's alright! I hope your recovery goes well for you. My work teaching in Thailand is easier than it seems, but i've started launching the paperwork and interviews to get my PGCE for teaching back home, which has caused a bit of stress for me lately. I can't wait to get some certainty on it. So far I am happy with what i'm doing; it feels like i've found something I can enjoy as a job for the first time.

Sadly it seems like just back home, there aren't many places to go swimming in Thailand. I am staying in a fairly rural province, and getting to any kind of pool would take the time investment out of a day to not be worth it. I hope that's something that I can fix when I am settled back at home.

I have a fairly mixed relationship with cats. My mum got a Siamese one a decade back, and he went missing for several months. By the time we found him, he would barely be in the house for less than a few hours before going over to stay with a couple down the road that we eventually passed him over to. Dogs have always been reliable bundles of joy that I have been with on-and-off for most of my Childhood. Unfortunately we would never keep them for long because no one was around consistently enough to take care of them at the level they deserved to be at. Once I move into a place of my own, I would like to have a Dog of my own once everything is settled down a bit.

Music wise, it varies quite a bit! I like Classical Music quite a lot and have a personalised playlist of Classical Tracks on Spotify. Otherwise I generally download songs that I listen to from various online sources that I find enjoyable, such as YouTubers like SummoningSalt that have a lot of very good music on their commentary videos. Gaming wise, it varies again. I have my Switch that has a variety of standard and indie titles, my Laptop & Desktop with a variety on Steam, and I run a D&D Campaign ideally once a week.

For me, the reading part comes down to finding something interesting enough to read digitally. I have seen stuff, but nothing sticks out as "I need to read this right away" level of importance so it has been shelved for the time being.

If you'd like i'm happy to continue this chat via the dm's system on the forum?

  • Hi nice to meet you Para.

Yes I saw your reply, thanks so much for replying and sorry I haven’t replied to you there yet; I accidentally fractured my wrist and some fingers over the weekend when I was trying to put up some Xmas decs, lol. My hand is now bandaged and typing is a sloooowww process.

Good luck with your training! I work in early years education part time, also in training. It’s tiring and hard work but so worth it.

I love swimming, I feel at peace in the water, it’s a lovely free feeling for me. I swam all the time as a kid but I don’t get to do it as much either anymore, shame as I really enjoy it. I try to swim at least once a month if I can. I love all animals, especially dogs and cats, they are so friendly and good natured if you spend the time to earn their trust and get to know them well. I had a German Shepherd growing up, Dolly, she was the best friend I ever had.
What music are you in to? I like playing games. I play on my Nintendos mostly, games like Pokemon, Mario, Lego. Also like Monopoly which my family and I always play during the Xmas period.

I like Podcasts as well. There’s some really good ones, they can be a good distraction when out walking. I listen to them when I walk or when I’m on the train. I like the Kindle, if you try Kindle Unlimited free for a month to start that might be a good way to see if it’s something you will enjoy.

If you ever want to chat I’m always around.

  • Just getting through another day and trying to stay warm. :)

  • Hi!

You might have seen me on the xmas thread, but you can call me Para. I'm currently training as a teacher abroad in Thailand, so I might not be active at the regular UK times but I keep up with the forum fairly regularly where I can.

Some overlapping interests we have include: Swimming, (Was really into it as a kid, and haven't had the opportunity to try it again yet) Animals though mainly Dogs, and listening to music. I'm also big into games of most kinds (Video Games, Board Games, etc.) and spend my time while walking listening to Podcasts about History. I'm thinking of getting stuff for a Kindle as well but i'm not sure what yet.

It's nice to meet you! If you need someone to chat to, i'm happy to listen.
