Maybe distracting him with a favorite show or song during the haircut would help? I find with my daughter (who dislikes having her hair brushed) we have our best success when she has something else to keep her mind off of the brushing.
Also I have to say that the four others who have posted on here (Lotus, XcaliburG, TheCatWoman, and Martin) have all had excellent advice.
I found using the clippers in short bursts helps, with breaks in between so there’s less overwhelm. Also giving control over which part gets cut first made a big difference.
Would a mobile hairdresser be better, they can come to your house?
Does he need a cut that can only be done with clippers?
Manually operated, non-electric, hair clippers are still available. They are labour-intensive, require more dexterity, but make almost zero noise. Available for example from Amazon here: www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=asc_df_B0C1HN7KSX Shop around of course! The Wahl rechargeable, cordless, hair clippers are quite quiet (about the same sound as a good quality electric razor), but obviously make some noise. I have no idea how quiet you need them to be. Buying one on speculation would be far more expensive than trying out a manual one, however.
