Hello, I was late diagnosed at 27... we found out it went backwards in our family... found out my nephew was diagnosed, then my sister... then she suggested I should speak to a professional as she thinks I struggle on a social level (which I agree with).

I am currently unemployed seeking work, I have struggled to keep a job but volunteering in the main time.

I often enjoy games like pokemon/legend of zelda, I draw and listen to music... absolutely love animals!

I joined to learn more about autism as I struggled to understand my nephew and most recently was let go due to being unable to follow instructions... it feels like I am having to learn from scratch as I also have dslyexica, dsycalculus and most likely dsypraxia... (always been clumbsy with bruises! - but not official on dsypraxia).

If anyone has experience when disclosing their autism in job places it would be very helpful, as I am not sure when to mention it. I have told family and friends who I trust but currently seeking work and hoping when I get there the employer will be understanding.

Sorry if it's a long-ish induction, but it highlights my interest and current struggles.

  • Hi, nice to meet you Slight smile I used to love Pokémon, Raichu was my favourite. I can’t believe there’s so many now. 

    I’m also unemployed. Most jobs available seem so stressful to me, and without understanding or accommodations I don’t know what I could do. 

    I keep meaning to watch Hazbin Hotel, Loona looks cool.

    Hi whippet, nice to meet you! Raichu is very cute yes there's over 1000 now... I believe? I honestly relate about the job situation. For me it's a mental toll of rejection then trying to figure out how to say "I have autism"... is there anything you enjoy for Job aspect? Art? Admin? I find reception work and admin easy enough for me to do.

    Honestly watch hazbin hotel or the other show helluva boss! I love both shows!

    Good afternoon Whippet, I'm glad it was helpful. It's okay I'm a bit better over it now. I just hope my next roles are more supportive. Today at the appointment I had I may be on a new course that's suitable to a course I did I'm graphic design. I love art but struggled since no degree! Anyway, hope all is well on your side and you find something useful also. :)

    I'm doing well, hope it's the same for you! I think I know one... I signed up to it before, but the clinic I got diagnosed at hopefully referred me back to them. Thinking I might need to pop in and actually see them one day.

    I suppose it depends where people live... have had better luck with roles where I now live. In admin you often get told... it depends on a few things- would you cope in a front facing role? Having to multitask (telephone/emails/face to face).. it's mostly data entry for basic tasks or learning new systems (depends on the admin role). You often get training in these jobs if you are new to it. I will admit I was very anxious at first but it has been easier for me the more I do it.

    I do like some of it, but it can get a bit boring (doing the same/similar tasks). I was hoping my last role I could've kept longer they kinda... went behind my back about letting me go. They told the agency and I got very upset thinking I was doing okay. It can get a difficult with others being angry at you which I dont like. But if youve got the right support it really helps. 

    I could keep on writing more but... I hope it gives you an idea?

    I agree with you about rejection and saying that you have autism. Do you know of any support services near you? It seems like I’m in a black hole where I live Laughing I do think about admin but I get anxious over not knowing what’s expected of me, or am I just overthinking? What has admin been like for you? :)
