Hello

Hello I'm Sky.

I was recently just diagnosed with autism. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in my early teens. I live with my dad and step mum. My dad is pretty understanding of my diagnosis and has tried his best to help support me, my step mum doesn't really care that much. Sadly my birth mum was killed during the 9/11 attacks, I don't remember her very well which is horrible but I like to think she would have been supportive too.

I'm currently working at a primary school as a teaching assistant to a little autistic boy who's struggling to integrate and I find this draining but so rewarding too. Just knowing I'm helping him using my own experiences is such a good feeling. I get so tired though at times I worry I'll not be able to stay working like I am.

I'm here to hopefully meet others like me and just 'interact' online as I don't really interact in real life. I work, eat, sleep and repeat. My whole life as a child and as an adult has been watching others interact and me just standing there wondering why I don't fit in.

Hopefully find some answers here maybe.

Nice to meet you.

  • Hello Sky and welcome

I'm retired now but have had various jobs over my lifetime - one of which was being a special needs teaching assistant. It was about 30 years ago and I was one of the first to gain a professional learning support qualification. I also found it very rewarding but exhausting, and I would often fall asleep on the sofa for a while after getting home.

I hope you enjoy chatting with us.
