Hello.

After recently getting a diagnosis for my daughter and learning about ASD I chose to take some of the online tests as traits mentioned apply to me.

I scored 43 on the AQ-50 and 151 on the "aspie quiz" (my chart on the latter looks a lot like those posted by other on here, heavily biased toward the red side). There were other tests but I forget the scores there.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth seeking a professional diagnosis at this point in my life (M, 52, decent job) or just try to process the idea that I wasn't a "weird" kid, and I'm not "a bit soft" now, but I do have some form of ASD.

It's kind of a relief that there likely is an underlying reason that I've never fitted in with NT people, and have struggled with interpersonal relationships. And there seems to be a reason I get unreasonably angry when my sat nav chooses something other than my preferred route somewhere.

I've also always found it very difficult to explain technical stuff in layman's terms (much more comfortable writing a technical report than a thank you letter too).

Be gentle with me, this is the first time I've opened up to anyone aside from my mum about this.

  • Hello and welcome. I also discovered I was on the spectrum when I was in my fifties. A doctor told me I wouldn't get any support if I did have a formal diagnosis, as I was able to work.and look after myself, so I haven't bothered. Self diagnosed people are very welcome here - hope you find the forum useful.
