hello :)

Hello all,

I'm Rebecca and my 6 year old son was diagnosed with ASD and mild learning difficulties today after 4 years of fighting to get a diagnosis, other than the dreaded 'global development delay' Although we knew its what he would end up being diagnosed with its still a shock to actually have it written on paper. We are over the moon to get his diagnosis as we need all the help and knowledge we could get to find ways to help him as he grows, mainly with the aggressive behaviour side as this really does scare me when I think about the future, he is a big lad and can out strength me now so I am dreading when he's older. Anybody have any tips? Not necessarily about the behaviour side of things just in general. Thankyou for reading :)

  • My son already has a statement, has had for nearly two years. He goes to a special needs school also, so he gets the help in which he needs at school, just now with a diagnosis they will understand him more and can help him according to how they usually help an ASD child. The thing is with school is he doesnt have ANY behavioural issues, its just home. His routine is generally the same at home and any changes to routine would be minor and minor changes dont bother him. Yes he has sensory issues, textures, noises etc. Usually the kicking and smacking and throwing things comes out of nowhere. I am still quite new to all of this and is still hard for me and his dad to get our head around. Now he has his diagnosis we will be going on a CYGNET course, it is meant to be extremely helpful to carers and gets them to understand ASD more, so I am looking forward to starting this to get to understand my son more and give him what he needs.
