hello :)

Hello all,

I'm Rebecca and my 6 year old son was diagnosed with ASD and mild learning difficulties today after 4 years of fighting to get a diagnosis, other than the dreaded 'global development delay' Although we knew its what he would end up being diagnosed with its still a shock to actually have it written on paper. We are over the moon to get his diagnosis as we need all the help and knowledge we could get to find ways to help him as he grows, mainly with the aggressive behaviour side as this really does scare me when I think about the future, he is a big lad and can out strength me now so I am dreading when he's older. Anybody have any tips? Not necessarily about the behaviour side of things just in general. Thankyou for reading :)

  • Hi Becci - gd news about the diagnosis - get a statement of educational needs, if you haven't already, so he gets support at school (lessons + any break times).  His challenging behaviour cd be for any number of reasons, such as how he copes with school.  Also when routines are disrupted, especially suddenly.  Did they mention is he had any sensory issues such as certain noises or tastes or textures?  They can up stress levels.  If you haven't have a look around the site via the home pg + also the posts.  Ask any questions you want - lots of good advice/support here. Smile
