hi my little boy who is 2 years this month has global delay and is thought to be asd just had bloods which include genetics and have to go back end of march, the reason he has been picked up so early is because i am a health visitor and also had a heart attack when i was 19 weeks pregnant with him therefore i have been watching him under a microscope due to the heart attack.

eventhough i knew he was displaying the ingredients for autism i was very upset when the paedritician told me that he does appear to have some autistic tendancies and will now be put on the SCAP.

i have good and bad days and my little boy has good and bad days, my little boy loves opening and shutting doors it can be any door but will continuously open and shut and if i try to take him away he has a melt down he also has a thing for switching sockets on and off just wondered if anyone else has had this experience.

i worry about the future but at the moment i have a lot of support around me and trying to take one day at the time.

    I'm sorry to hear about the difficult time you're having at the moment.

     

    For a start it might help to wait for more info on the possible Autism diagnosis from your child's peadiatrican as it can then help to make a new child DLA application. In the meantime you could ask for an internal review (I think it's called reconsideration - that's the DWP for you Tongue Out) if you wish to. I think it's because of his age their being restrictive.

    If you do get the diagnosis it can also help to apply for a Statement of Special Educational Needs and possible help from social services as your child should be classed as being a "Child In Need" (google the latter term for more info).

     

    I'm not trying to sway you into the be all or end all of a diagnosis, just it can help for opening doors and starting the long battle to get the right help for your child.

     

    In the meantime the door thing was something I used to do too. I was a similar age to your son and it started at around 3/4ish. I think it lasted to around age 6/7. As at the time the only doors I would have access to (not alone) were either the front house door or the main wooden enterance door for my GP's surgery. Is your son banging all the doors in the house for instance or certain doors.
