My son has always been on the spectrum but never diagnosed. Having started secondary school in a September he has experienced voices and visual disturbances often saying they are hitting or stabbing him and also telling him to hurt others and himself. Fortunately he knows not to do this and hasn’t acted on it.
School have been very supportive and doctors have referred us to mental health services but I’m looking into how to get a private diagnosis as I think this could be the best course of action to get him the help he needs.
Does anyone have similar experience that might able to advise me?
Hi NAS92577, You might want to look at the diagnosis hub on our advice pages here on the NAS site - https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/diagnosis - which covers various aspects of getting a diagnosis for ASD, the assessment, pre-diagnosis support, and has some information on private diagnosis. You could also have a look in the Autism Services Directory - https://www.autism.org.uk/autism-services-directory - which you can filter by subject and location to look for private diagnostic services in your area if you decide this is a route you want to take, or just to find more information on the subject.Hope this is of some help, Ross - mod
