Teenager with problems

Hi we are new to this and just signed up as we don't know where to turn. We have a 15 year old daughter who is under CAMS and has regular contact with a child psychologist. They say she has dysphracsia and mild ADHD. She has had this from very early in life.

The problem is she turns into a violent nightmare were she will punch and kick us, call us all the names under the sun and trash the house. And we don't know where to turn.

All CAMS seem to do is talk and we are now at our wits end as we can't continue, we need help and don’t know where to turn, the Doctor won’t help and keeps putting us back to CAMS.

I was listening to a radio show about a person with Asperger’s and your group was mention so I thought I would sign up to see if anyone can give us any ideas of what we can do.

  • Have you spoken to CAMHS about getting her assessed for ASC?

    If she does have an ASC, her rages will be about feeling overwhelmed, stress and sensory problems.

    If she doesn't have a quiet space, if people are being too loud, if there are too many visitors to the house it will all contribute to her exploding if she's autistic.

    It could be all school-related.  If she is in mainstream and isn't getting either the right type of support and understanding or enough support, it will all have a negative effect on her.  Does she have a statement of SENs?

    When you say the doctor won't help, s/he is out of their depth with anything psychological/emotional/neurological and all they want to do is send you off to the usual place (CAMHS) because they don't know how to differentiate between psychological and neurological.

    Ask your GP specifically, for a referral for ASC/ASD assessment, if your CAMHS doesn't have the expertise you are entitled to an out-of-area assessment at a specialist centre.
