Hi !

Waited a long time to join here and connect to others who are in one way or another neurodivergent.

As is typical for my generation, I wasn’t diagnosed with Aspergers until I was 40, and received absolutely no support up until that point, but it has got much better since.

There’s greater empathy and understanding now when compared to the vacuum which existed when I was a kid back in the 70s, but you still encounter an inflexible, hostile, toxic minority, and perhaps one would wish to become part of a system which might lead to further progress, greater understanding and respect for our group, which is a prime motivation for joining here and discussing my experiences, with individuals who can relate to or maybe even perhaps learn something from my long-and-tortuous journey.

I pretty much conform to the Asperger cliche, including ;

-preferring to stick to my routines and hating disruption

-very physically non-tactile and OCD

-burn out easily and require long periods of withdrawal

-sensory hyper-stimulation

And, narrow-but-fixated pastime interests such as music, especially hard rock and metal, comics, films and video games. A bit of a nerd, perhaps being autistic as well makes that additionally next level.

That’ll do as an intro, anyway.  Look forward to posting again.

  • Hello.  Welcome to this place.  May I ask why you waited a long time to join this place?  Have you been reading here for a while without joining in - and if so, what has finally changed your mind?

No need to answer if this is a troubling question  - I don't mean to appear nosey, I'm just interested in what you have said above.

    Kind regards

    Number.

  • Just spending a long time deciding whether or not to join, rather than being someone who’s lurked around here in the background.

I do wish to share my experiences with others like you, trying your best to live with one-or-more largely invisible spectrum conditions; some good memories, of course, but also incidents which clearly indicate an ongoing, incessant disparity with the other much more physically-overt disabilities; the neurotypical dismissiveness, gaslighting even, and mockery, condescension.

For me, certain situations recently deteriorated into abject futility after years of being approached with quiet, polite negotiation, and, instead of bashing my head against that too-often impenetrable, rock-solid wall, it’s clearly time to pick an alternative strategy and to document and adjudicate these experiences on an appropriate public forum, rather than be persistently buried and ignored.  Deciding on making the transition from passive to reactive, well, that’s what made me cautious about joining - how explicit can I be here, while still managing to conform to the message board’s rule book?

As a new member, one needs to tread carefully.

Well, this does not appear to be a problem for most of us.  Random automated "pulls" by the software are frustratingly common...but these are corrected quite quickly.

I would recommend changing ALL names to protect yourself and others and don't use swear words and don't insert more than 3 quotes (like the one at the start of my post here)....and you should be fine.

I hope to see you around.
