Hello from Felixstowe

Hello everyone. My name is Peter, I’m 32, and I come from Felixstowe, in Suffolk. I was diagnosed with Autism at an early age (around 3 years old).

I had a difficult school life. Despite my talent and achievements, I could not cope with all that unwanted screaming, shouting and general misbehaviour. Even today, I struggle to cope with similar noise distractions in various public environments, such as public transport and shopping centres.

Finding a job after I left school was difficult. After I left high school, it would be roughly 1½ years before I got my first proper job. It seemed relatively easy to find a voluntary job role in my local area, but finding a paid job was difficult, especially in this day and age.

I have had difficulty using public transport over the years. My local bus service has been unreliable and uncomfortable. Sometimes the service would turn up late, or not run at all. Fortunately, I travel by train, which I find faster and more comfortable.

I would love to be able to share my experiences with yours, so I hope to speak to you soon.
