Newly diagnosed Aspie/ADHDer!

Hi everyone,

I'm 24 and I was diagnosed with Asperger's (and re-diagnosed with ADHD) in July.I've had years and years of incorrect diagnoses leading to incorrect treatment and even hospitalisations. I'm so glad I know what's up now so I can get my life back on track. I've always wanted to do a health-related science so now I want to get myself to uni so I can head towards Autism research to help improve treatment for people like myself. I also want to be voice for other girls out there like me who need to be diagnosed sooner.

Looking forward to getting to know every one!

Ps. Happy Friday!

  • Hello Milo,

I am 26 years old, female, and was diagnosed with AS and OCD when I was 21 years old. I was diagnosed far too late because my difficulties were first picked up at pre-school, and age 5 the teacher expressed concerns that I was not socialising appropriately with my peers. I was assessed  by the educational psychologist and occupational therapist age 10, at school, and the school were told to initiate the process for special educational needs. This never happened, it being my final year of primary school, and I think the school only cared  about league tables - they tried to stop me taking SATS!

Still, I went to my local  University and attained a history degree, before my diagnosis. I have come along way since the diagnosis, and now have a small job during the week - supported work.

I am interested in health sciences, too. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
