I am mum to two little boys, aged 5 and 7.
My 7 year old is being assessed for ASD and I don't know how to help him. At first I was trying to take things (and testing) as slowly as possble because to me he is just amazing and I could not understand why the school wanted to refer him etc. As the years pass I begin to see what they are trying to achieve, but I don't know what is best for him and how to support him.

Hi - welcome. There's loads of info via the home pg + also on the posts so have a look if you haven't already. There's a lot to learn so don't try to do it all at once. Concentrate on how autism affects your son personally. Has he sensory issues such as a reaction to certain noises or tastes or textures or smells etc? Does he need more routine in his life (including his school life?). These are things to think about. It would be good if you could tell us a bit more about him so we can answer with more of an understanding
