Carers assessment

Hi everyone

My name is Iain, I live with my 18 year old daughter (Eboni) who was diagnosed only 7 months ago. The last 3 years have been what I can only describe as a long battle, to get the right help and support and more recently, a diagnosis.

Eboni currently gets help and support from a local charity called Matthews Hub in Hull, and has recently started an online diploma. The diploma is funded by East Riding Council through my daughter’s EHCP. Eboni also receives PIP. Eboni does not leave the house by herself and spends the majority of her life in her bedroom, gaming, watching Anime etc.

I have a carers assessment on Monday with Social Services and was hoping for some advice. Since my daughters 18 birthday, my responsibilities have changed from a single parent, to a carer - what support is available for me? What should I be asking for? I have to admit, I even feel guilty asking for support but I know my own mental health is suffering too.

Any words of advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Iain
