disruptive behaviour at bedtime - any advice!

my 5 year old grandson has become very disruptive at bedtime recently, kicking and hitting out, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to help him through this stage,

  • Hi Crystal - thanks for your comment. yes there has been one big change recently. my daughter has had to change the boys bedrooms around - she has three boys - the youngest aged 3 (recently diagnosed as being at the severe end of the spectrum) has had to moved into his own bedroom; he had been in with his middle brother.  the older boy Thomas who is only mildly affected has been moved to share with his  brother, and since then his bedtime behaviour has been getting out of hand. He is always very sorry afterwards but we are at a loss to know how to help him, he is out of control, he will not stay in bed although obviously tired, runs into his mothers bedroom and causes havoc and insites his youngest brother to the same behaviour. so sometimes she has both boys kicking and hitting her.

any ideas would be really welcome

  • Hi Robin - if you could give us some more info it would help with replies.  Have you any ideas why his behaviour has changed?  It could be any number of things.  Perhaps a change or changes in his bedtime routine, changes in his bedroom, upset about missing something on tv, not wanting to stop what he's doing??  If you can work out why he's behaving this way then you have a better chance of finding a way of dealing with it.
