Hello

Hi, I have just joined today.  Have son of 17/18 who is struggling right now.  He was only diagnosed 18 months ago with High-Functioning Autism, just before his GCSE's.  I feel so alone and find that as a Mum, other Mums with so called 'normal-functioning' children have never seemed to and don't seem to understand.  I am hoping we can find some support here.

  • Hi there, welcome - you are not alone and the support here is lovely and really helps.

We too had late diagnosis - just over the last year and our son is 13.  He s struggling to come to terms with who and what he is and why.  He now thinks on top if everything else that he wants to be a girl. I really despair sometimes.

We have two other chidren and its so hard on them too although they are great with him.

I understand where you are coming from about other people too, I feel awkward and embarrassed.  The other day though we were doing a group activty and my son was finding it difficult, I had a quiet word in the instructors ear that he had asd and after that it was so much better just for me as I knew I was not being judged for having a rude child, the instructor understood it was just his disability. We had a great time!

Someone told me this quote today "those who mind dont matter and those who matter dont mind"

    Best wishes
