Newly diagnosed son

Hi everyone, my 8 year old son has just been diagnosed with Asperger's and I'm currently floundering around a bit trying to come to terms with what this actually means for me and my family, and what to do next.

  • My son is almost 8 and he too has just been diagnosed (awaiting report in the post) he has been diagnosed with Autism, Dyspraxia and adhd. We have been pushing for help since he was 2 but I guess better late than never :S

  • Hi julysea - welcome to the site.  Lots of info here for you to have a look at.  Don't try to learn everything in at once - impossible to do - a bit at a time is easier to handle.  Also there are lots of posts on here about how parents feel when their child gets a diagnosi so if you haven't already, do a search.  You'll recognise your feelings in other people's posts.  I think an important thing to consider is how autism affects your son as an individual + take things from there.  Everyone is an individual with their strengths + weaknesses + autistic people are no different in that respect.  How's your son doing?
