Hello

hi, my name is becky i am 20 years old i live in the north east, i have asperger's syndrome i was first diagnosed at the age of 11 and then re diagnosed at the age of 17.

every single thing in life i have ended up having to fight for, i was bullied at school starting at the age of 7, changed schools 3 times because of this, at 16 i got my first job thanks to a family friend, we then fell out she took it upon herself to tell my employer about my aspergers sydrome because they were so miss informed they decided that because of it i could not do my job and they would not let me, we then took them to court and rather than cooperating they decided to settle out of court.

after all these experiences it has taken a toll on my life as if living with asperger's is not hard enough, i now have severe anxiety and depresion i am also unempyloed so have very little in my life at all.

i suppose i guess i have finally found the guts to come here and find some people who understand where i am coming from and that understand that even though i have asperger's that it doesnt make me any less human than anyone else on the planet, i would love to meet some other's either sufferes or other people who support people with asperger's syndrome.

thanks for taking the time to read this, i am very greatful and would love people to get back in touch if they have the time

becky xx

  • Hi becky

I'm a bit younger than you-and I have high functioning ASD. But what you descrbe is one of my main fears of the future-that I have no job, nothing to do and all the routine and structure I had and loved at school is lost. Only a year after leaving school life is so much harder despite the fact that school never helped me because I did not have the diagnosis in time.

I know what it's like to have to fight for things, I am exactly the same. I was bullied throught both primary and seccondary schools-13 years,  I know what it's like. I now voulenteer as a mentor online to help other young people being bullied. The age limit for the site I use is 18 so you are not able to join but I am happy to talk to you on here if you would like to and you think it can at all.

I do however know of a site that could help you. http://www.thefutureyou.org.uk/ is for people age 14-25 and is all about getting young people in education employment or training. It is quite comfusing at first but they have some super welcome buddies (which I am one!-with a different username to the one I use here though) to help you find things. I really would reccomend you  look at some of the information or chat to one of the mentors or advisors.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on or if you need any help.
