14 yr old son recently diagnosed

Hi everyone my 14 yr old son has not been in school since the beginning of sept. We tried everything reduced timetable & only going in for one lesson but he was so distressed he was cutting himself & threatening suicide. He has struggled his whole life since nursery school at the age off 3. He cried almost everyday in primary school & would be really distressed leaving me in the mornings & throughout his day if things would change & he wasn't expecting it. Hes my only child so I knew nothing about autism but thought the teachers should have picked up on his behaviour but the school was a terrible let down. I took him to our gp through the years & he would be referred to camhs who were treating him for separation anxiety & school phobia. It wasn't until he turned 13 & started to harm himself & would be really distressed having to speak to people or be around his peers that camhs picked up on autism they assessed him & referred him on but the waiting list was 3 yrs. We went private & got an appointment in 6 weeks he finally got diagnosed 2 weeks ago & we now finally understand all his behaviour & quirks. I love him so much & my heart breaks for him having no friends as he can't communicate & socialise properly. Hes such a good kid but is totally isolated here at home but its his safe space & I've never seen him happier when the stressor off school was taken from him. We are waiting on help from the education welfare officer to get him some help at home but for now he's no longer self harming & his mood is a lot better too. I feel it for everyone on here its very difficult to come to terms with. We are just taking it day by day.
