12 yr old pre diagnosed

Good morning my name is Laura and I would really appreciate some help my 12 yr old is yet to be diagnosed she has been accessed and is said to be showing traits of OCD and being on the autism spectrum but we are still waiting through nhs to have her diagnosed. In the meantime she is not attending school as she is finding it extremely stressful and finds it hard to communicate with other children as they r all so confident and shall we say not her cup of tea lol she has no friends at school and struggles with the not so structured school day in a normal senior school 

I have been working with the school and we have tried everything from support to reduced timetables to just going for an hour but even this is now proving a complete nightmare 

so I’m thinking should I move her to another school one that would help suit her more? I am out of options and have no clue what to do but now worrying she is not getting any form of education or socialising skill of what she can manage 

any advise would be so much appreciated thank you x

  • If she's autistic she might not like change. So I wouldn't move her unless she wants to.

    Meanwhile will the school give you a copy of the subject syllabus so she can engage with the topics even if not physically there much of the time. Even if just one subject grabs her interest and she does just that at home. It would be something which perhaps could be a bridge to re-intergration.

    Thank you for taking time to reply to me, yes we have tried all of this  and I have the curriculum to follow at home but it’s just trying to get her back in there interstates we have tried pretty much everything I feel the school is just too big for her

    Hi I'm having the same problems with my 14 yr old son he hasn't attended school since the beginning of sept. Hes only recently diagnosed but had problems everyday of his primary school. I feel 'big' school is way too much for him he can't handle it at all. I'm worried sick that he's so isolated as he never leaves home & has no friends but he was made fun off by so called friends & they would speak to him one day & ignore him the next. He started self harming & his poor arms are a terrible state. He can't tolerate school at all. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. All I can tell u is my son is so much happier & peaceful than hes ever been & we are waiting on the education welfare officer getting him some help.at home & at the minute there's no chance off him going bk to school. His mental health is so much more important than his education so he will be staying home for the foreseeable.

    Sounds like ur daughters school has been helpful in reducing her time at school. I was able to get some help from the asd teacher & the school contacted the education welfare officer on my behalf & this was before my sons diagnosis. We have a choice of alternative schools which im desperate to get him into because he's so isolated but his major problems are socialising & communicating so its a dead end for us at the minute. I would suggest approaching the education board to see what ur options are! I really hope u get her the help & support she needs. I know exactly what ur going through
