New to the forum :-)

Hi everyone. I'm a single parent living in Scotland. It took many years persistence on my part to get a diagnosis for my son (years of he is just below average intelligence, he's just immature, that's just the way he is etc) Eventually last year it was confirmed that he has an ASD. He is now 13. I am here hoping to share experiences, get advice and a sense of community understanding. I don't know my way around the forum yet but hopefully I will catch up soon....just now my son has become so overwhelmed with his first year of secondary school that he is constantly talking about and referring to suicide. I am at my wits end with worry, so if someone could point me to the appropriate forum section/advice to discuss this it would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • As far as school goes, the thing that gets him is the buildings environment, the crowds and the not being able to understand where everyone else is coming from. An example of the things he has been saying are 'people avoid me because I am weird, there are too many people, I'm bored, people look at him funny etc' That is fantastic your son is getting the support at school he needs and is sitting his exams, I've got my fingers and toes crossed for him Laughing x
