Introduction

Hello Everyone

My name is Dan and I'm from Leeds, West Yorkshire.

I'm new to this forum and have just joined the National Autistic Society this morning. My wife used to work for a specialist college where she worked with young people on the spectrum.

Our son is almost 3 and has just been diagnosed with autism.  Although my wife and I do have a little experience, the reality is that we have just begun on a new journey of learning.

We look forward to exploring this forum and the NAS website and getting to know the other members. It's also our aim to get involved with some fundraising once we find our feet.

Kind Regards

Dan

  • Hi Dan,
Welcome to the group. I am currently undergoing diagnosis and I know what you mean when you talk about autism as a cause. This is a good place to discuss this topic, as many people can identify with things like you without neurotypical judgment. I hope your son gets well soon. atv avrupa izle

  • Thanks Dawn. It's nice to be here.

  • Thanks for that. Very much appreciated.

  • Thanks Dan. There are quite a few dads here, we may not have all the answers but lots of us will have been through some of the stuff that you are so we're here if you need us. My son is nearly 8 so I think I can still just about remember some of the early stuff you'll be going through now!

  • Thank You for the welcome.

Like yourself, i'm glad that this was picked up early. I wish you all the best with the diagnosis and with getting the help and support available.

    Best Wishes

    Dan

  • Hi Adele

    Thank You, very much appreciated.

  • Hi Dan, welcome to the group.
My son was diagnosed aged 4 and I’m going through diagnosis currently. We feel quite fortunate that this was picked up quite early (for him anyway!) as we know a lot of people with older kids and who are really struggling to get diagnosed.

  • Hi and welcome Dan. I hope you find it useful and helpful being here.

    Take care.

  • Hi Lu

Thank you for your message, nice to meet you too.

It most certainly is different when it's your own child and yes, the paperwork can be frustrating..

All the best to you and your little one..

    Dan

  • Hi Dan Slight smile

    Welcome,

I have recently just joined myself as my 3.5 year old has been diagnosed. I work with kids with special needs in my day job, but it's very different when it's one of your own. All the forms and processes are overwhelming at times. Good luck with it all and nice to 'meet' you!

    Take care,

    Lu
