Hi! Another newbie here...

Hi.

My 8 year old son was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism shortly before Easter, and I've spent the last couple of weeks coming to terms with the diagnosis. I've know something was wrong since he was 18 months old, but has previously hovered around the borderline point for diagnosis. Can't tell you what a relief it has been to finally get a diagnosis, and realise that I haven't been an over anxious, paranoid mummy! I can finally connect with others in the same position without feeling a fraud.

  • Hi - welcome to the site.  The diganosis can take time to come to terms with.  There are lots of posts about that if you want to have a look.  Yes, it's common to wonder if you're just being an anxious parent, especially if it's your 1st.  I think if we're concerned then we should go with our instincts.  Lots of understanding/experience here, so ask anything you want.
