Hello, New to this site. I have a 3 yr old son and 3 month old daughter. My son was recently diagnosed as autistic (ASD). Currently feeling in limbo as not seeming to have much support and don't know what to do etc... he's happy and enjoying nursery, but I fear for the bigger picture and future years.

  • Hi - welcome to the site.  There's loads of info via the home page about almost everything. so have a look around if you haven't already. We all understand that your thoughts will be turning to schooling + finding the best place for him to learn + develop.  Has he got a statement of educational needs yet?  It's useful as it means he should get extra help if he needs it at school.  There's also lots of info from the posts!  Sorry to hear you aren't getting much support.  We'll give you any support we can on here.  Does your son have a social worker?  If you get a good one they can be helpful support-wise.  I don't know if there's a support group in Suffolk, you can check via the home page.  All your concerns are perfectly natural.  I think we can sometimes look too far ahead.   As he's only 3 there's lots of time so try not to worry.  As you say he's happy + enjoying nursery. It's how his autism affects him as an individual that's important to know about, because it means you can be of even more help to him as he grows up.  Knowledge is power so gaining that knowledge may help you a bit with some of your worries.  It can take a bit of getting used to, the diagnosis.  Many posts here about that.
