HI all

i'm a dad of 4 kids, my youngest girl is going through the autistic assessment process which for some reason seems to be taking forever, been dragging on now for over a year, and my son our youngest is showing signs he may also be on the spectrum.

I stumbled accross this place looking for answers or help or something and look forward to being part of the comunity.

    It does take a long time - my son's assessment was just under 12 months.

    Can l suggest that you ask what help you are entitled to without a diagnosis. I asked this question at one of my son's appointments and a was given a big list of groups/specialists that provided advice and training sessions to provide practical help.

    Once you get your diagnosis you'll be given a pack with information on help and l noticed that the majority of it was the same as l'd been given previously - this means you can get a head start rather than feel you have to wait for a diagnosis.
