Schooling issues

Hello all,

My son is currently in a mainstream school with an EHCP and like many he's waiting to go into a more suitable SEN placement.

Thankfully for last two years he's had very upstanding Headteacher, SENCO, class teacher and amazing teaching assistance. Over the last two years he has progressed so much.

Unfortunately the Headteacher has moved on and the new Headteacher is the complete opposite. Everything the previous administration put is place is now being reversed and our son is being punished.

We get the feeling that she is attempting to cause our Son to become distressed, so she can justify expelling him. She is doing this by pulling positive reinforcement. He does 'now and next' at school and completion of school work is rewarded with 'golden time' which is time on a laptop or tablet.

There is a hope next school year as his new teacher is currently a deputy head at a SEN school in the Halifax area. We hope they'll be able to get the head onto the right path.

Does anyone have any advice or guidance?

  • Hi Stretch3670,

You might want to have a look at the contact details for NAS's Education Rights Service, which provides general information about educational rights and entitlements, as well as advice on specific topics such as getting extra help in school, assessments, education plans and more. While the ERS cannot advocate directly to the school on your behalf, it can help advise you of your rights and entitlements under the law and offer advice on resolving disagreements or conflicts with your child's school. The details can be found here: https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/help-and-support/education-advice-line

Hope this is of some help,
