Newbie

Hi all, my name is Alan and I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome last July at the grand old age of 50!

I have been extremely fortunate to get great support from my Employer who paid for the Assessment and who has subsequently been making big efforts to work with me and help me with adjustments to my job role, training and Mentoring services.

The diagnosis had been suggested some 3 or 4 years previously, but I put it to one side as I felt I had lived with myself for all those years and had coped, and could not see the benefit of a diagnosis.

I was, however, pushed to review the situation when a couple of issues arose at work and I am so glad I did, because its become apparent just how important understanding yourself can be. I have learnt so much already and will continue working hard to learn more and to adjust my thinking processes going forward.

To anyone unsure as to whether they should consider an assessment and diagnosis, I would say "Go for it" - in my eyes, you can only benefit from it!
