Newbie

Hi,

I am a father to 3 children, aged 21, 17 & 16. I was employed in the print industry for 28 + years. Following redundancy, i spent 4/5 years trying to get back into the industry, taking various roles in other industries. Since June 2012 i have been employed as care assistant/support worker, starting in community care, assisting the elderly in their own homes, then in Sept 2012 i joined an agency, who cover care homes for the elderly, also day centres & care homes for physical & learning difficulties.

One of the day centres was for young adults with Autism, which i would be assigned to work at quite often, up until Nov 2012. Since then i have been assigned to work at a residential home for adults aged between 40 & late 60's, with various physical & learning difficulties.

In Nov 2012 my application was accepted to work for the NAS. My induction training is currently ongoing, but once completed i will be Bank Support Staff, primarily for the Outreach Dept.

  • Hi Kiansmum,

    Thank you for the comment..

Yes..i love the job..wish i had been able to do it sooner..i spent 2/3 years applying for various care roles..mainly care homes for the elderly..but then applied for the community role in 2012..was accepted..then 3 months later started working for an agency..getting the opportunity to work in the day centres & homes..for learning/physical disablilties..which i found i prefered to working with the elderly.

I was also lucky that the Autistic day centre i worked at was run by the NAS..so i went on their website applying for a Bank Staff role..so i could work for them direct..rather than through the agency..i was offered an interview for one of their residential homes..but was unsuccessful..they then passed on my application to the Outreach Dept..who have accepted me.
