Good morning everyone. New to the site.
Please can anyone tell me how you feel we should identify ourselves to NT people? I am confused; some communities say we are autistic with neuro-diverse characteristics and tendencies and others say we have a condition called autism.
My employer says people with autism is the correct term but I have grown, knowing that I am autistic.
Hi Dee,
Nice to meet you. I think whatever makes you comfortable is the right response for you :-)
There is no 'correct' term when it comes to how you want to identify yourself. You get to choose what you prefer. (And it's okay if you change your mind later.)

Not at all tyrannical
But that's right - push your own PC agenda - all free thought must be stamped out. Comply or die.
Microsoft is a US company - the laws are somewhat different in the UK.
yes they can ----- if u breach your employment contract eg which upholds company policies ..... and if another Autistics complains you are not following company policy
My teamleader in microsoft had autism and he decided to in other to prevent fighting among autistics that he was to follow the government advice ----- anyone who didnt like where welcome to leave
everyone complied
Microsoft are a great employer BTW

You walk upto them and go ‘hello I’m your future overlord, bow before me.’
seriously who is your boss to be telling you how you should refer to your own condition.
Dee,
Talk to your HR department as to the best Terminology you should use and to see if its a "biggee" where you work

Vocabulary police. Yuck.
in work environment ,,Other autistics ( you dont know about ) can and will complain if u dont use this terminology in the work environment.
Call yourself whatever you feel comfortable with - I identify as aspie. Why should we care what NTs think?

Anyone 'helpfully' trying to correct me about some BS definition would be told exactly where to shove their advice.. Too many self-proclaimed 'experts' at PC.
in work environment it is best to use "People with Autism", just to stop being corrected publicly in the work environment which can be very awkward. Other autistics ( you dont know about ) can and will complain if u dont use this terminology in the work environment.
Also Employers have been asked by certain bodies ( advised by psychiatrists ) to always use that term in the work environment.
outside of work anything goes. Dont declare it unless necessary.
Hello, Dee. Welcome. There is no right or wrong answer, no correct or incorrect description. It's a personal choice. All that matters is how YOU want to describe YOURSELF. No one can dictate what words you use to express your uniqueness.
