UPDATED: It took six years but I was finally diagnosed this month!

Hi everyone.

My first time posting to the new forums here. What better time than just after my formal diagnosis with an Autistic Spectrum Condition - which I choose to refer to as Asperger's as that is where my diagnosis journey began and I am happy being Aspie.

My local GP referred me to an NHS unit in Hampshire and they assessed me but were ill-equipped nor experienced in assessing adults with unhelpful parents. So life went on without diagnosis until lockdown put me in touch with a new community I will be spending time with at Steampunk events post-pandemic.

One of my new acquaintances was recently diagnosed herself, remotely online and by a well respected specialist in Berkshire, which takes private referrals to avoid wasting more time. I'm in my mid-forties now and live with MS so I needed this doing now while I am still able to.

I had my remote assessment last week, it was very enjoyable and didn't involve more people than it really needed to, resulted in a clear picture of what was assessed and a formal diagnosis which has been a long time coming.

I am very grateful to Anne Jeavons (Clinical Psychologist) and Dr Katie Bebb for their friendly manner, careful attention, due respect and valuable time in assessing me properly and effectively in adult life. They do take NHS referrals if you prefer to go that route.

I hope that helps others looking for assessment.

Catie x
