Retaking GCSE & more

Hi everyone,

I got diagnosed with ASD on 29.03.2020 at 22 years old. I struggled massively in school both socially and academically and now looking back I realise why I had such a difficult time.

I would like to retake my GCSE’s and so on so I can actually do something with them I’m passionate about. If anyone has been in the same situation as me that knows where to start and who to talk to for some kind of educational support I would appreciate it.

  • It really depends what you want to do.

My daughter dropped out of school, did a GNVQ Art and Design level 3 at 16 (equivalent 4 GCSEs for entry purposes, and then did jobs till she did a foundation year to get onto a degree at 23. So as others are saying GCSEs may not be the fastest route it depends where you want to get to.

My other two children both left school about the same time, since we then knew home education was a thing, and they did their own study and the took the GCSE exams at a local retakes college who are often happy to have external students join the exam room for a small fee.  So long as you do examination focused rather than coursework focussed exams you dont need to have a distance learning college if you dont want the tutoring, or to do lab work.  This is the lowest cost GCSE route if cost needs to be kept down.  International IGCSEs are designed for exam based qualifications for people not in a standard class setting and are very highly regarded.  The exam boards Edexcel or AQA publish lists of their exam centres so you can find one local to you.
