I am Di & I'm really proud to have ASD because I just thought I was really weird, off, a loner, different....or alien. I've always loved my weirdness & have always known that those that are more unaccepting of others-usually do not accept themselves & aren't worth the relationship investment. I adore understanding, accommodating, accepting, patient & kind people. Hoping to find that here.
Hmmmmmmmmm. What can I say--"cliff's notes version?" I had SPECT brain imaging done in early 20's which revealed ADHD (yes, hyperactivity), OCD, GAD, Learning Disabilities, Agoraphobia, Social Phobia....etc...sound familiar? This gave some relief & understanding to bad working memory & reading comprehension problems, as well as attention.
But there's always been something else. I've always known it. The meltdowns/shutdowns and all the sensory perception problems....It was a relief, but it didn't answer all the questions. If anything, it was annoying having all those comorbidities, none of which were helped by the one medication I've taken for the last near-decade, except the ADHD--but we all know it just leads to more anxiety. I think high anxiety, sadly just becomes a way of life for us.
BASICALLY---I got skipped & with the most cutting-edge psychology tech science (even today).
They just didn't have enough data or information on ASD back in 2007.
It's taken me till late 30's to piece it together. With many thanks to ASD advocate like Dan from 'The Aspie World' & ADHD advocate Jess from 'How to ADHD' (I believe that is her name), seeing newly taken SPECT imaging scans of ASD on The Amen Clinics website AND noticing traits in my mom who had Asperger's in her diagnosis, as well as ADHD in the same area of the brain as me. LOVELY genetics--no, really, I do love my genetics.
I plan to go back THIS YEAR and have a re-evaluation of my scan done. I've been struggling, until I came to that solution. It's not cheap, but it's worth it to talk to a real psychiatrist that knows SPECT scans.
Until then--I really want to get plugged in--I've always been a loner. I've never belonged to groups---but maybe this will be different.
This month my husband & I both finish our bachelor's degrees we started 2 years ago (building upon prior credits from 2005) & we are EXHAUSTED, but EXCITED FOR THE FUTURE.
I'm excited to meet you all & form some quality relationships.....as well as find out that you all are struggling with the same things.
Bye!
Hi, it's a really interesting subject so I'm wondering if I could ask you a few questions regarding your experience ? Have you been officially diagnosed ASD ?

Can these diagnoses be officially given through a scan ? I presume you paid a lot of money for the scan ? If so, what would be the difference from getting a much cheaper or free diagnoses from a mental health professional as these are not too hard to diagnose ?

Is there any hard science behind this ?
TheLoneWolf said:I really wish, I didn't have to shell out over $600 for a new eval & new patient establishment---but that's inexpensive for what you get. The scans cost between $4k-5k.......but you actually get to see brain surface area/blood flow to that area or lack of blood flow. I love brain science....major interest. I don't know where I'd be without it.
It is a lot of money to pay. What do you actually get ?
Brain scans are so interesting ,in my family we have 5 who have had them not spect but mri and 2 who have not .Spect sounds interesting i wonder if anywhere in the uk does them .
take up the study of feet and toes its so much cheaper
everyone back on the ships !
I've never identified with America....I've been living the 1960's french mindset since forever. It's TIME FOR THE GREAT reverse migration!
no i agree u're the expert here on Dallas but USA is so big and nice weather depending on the state ----- why leave ? did you rob a bank ?
You probably get Dylan Moran from Black Books brought up alot......but he's SO FUNNY!
There is some southern hospitality style you love....then there's Dallas. It's weird here & a mixed bag. No one in the city has any dam* manners---that's the hard part for me.
I feel like Irish people have the best humor & natural approach...honest to life. I am in Texas, dallas-ft worth area.....smothered right in the southern bible belt where I've been since 2000. I am d-o-n-e with the US, but especially Texas. It's weird here.
My ancestors are mostly high % Scotland, Norweigan, Irish, Wales.
Texas, my fovorite people ! I used to work for Allstate.com so got to work with many Texans we got on so well it was weird
u'll be most welcome in Ireland. I live in Northern Ireland and my ancestors come from scotland.
where are u right now ?
Wow, that's awesome. YES....you must protect yourself or you'll absorb peoples' problems & that's too much. I've found most friendships for me can be like this if I'm not careful. Husband & I will sell everything (we're already minimalist, so shouldn't be too hard) house, car, anything that doesn't fit into a container & move to what we've narrowed down to Scotland, Ireland, England or France.....that was the goal we set around 2 years ago. I'm on my last class & then I'll put my full attention on making that happen.

Thanks for being interested....most people are not lol. I'm like....."BUT it's YOUR BRAIN."

Does this let me attach links? Check out SPECT...different than MRI/PET or other similar sounding scans. They show classic signs for ASD are:
-Underactivity in the pre-frontal cortex
-Overactivitiy in the cigulate gyrus (middle area of brain)
-Underactivity in one or both of the temporal lobes
Let's see if it'll let me attach a link.....
so whats your plan now ?
i have been here a while 2/3 years. It used to be really busy and had loads of really skilled people eg psychiatric nurses so we did a lot of chatting and playing games. I hope to cut my time down on here eventually.
I also did a lot of talking people through their issues which would take hours. I try to avoid that now as it can be exhausting.
I am a software tester so i test what software developers produce I work with 4/5 developers everyday via Microsoft Teams
Welcome aboard I'm fascinated with your diagnosis progress - I didn't think that you could diagnose those things in a scanner.
Wow, how does one even get almost 27,000+ pts on this site? Does it have anything to do with being a software developer? j/k
