Hello all,
I am mother to a 2 and half year old little girl who is my whole world :)
She can be quiet, doesn't interact well with people and children she doesn't know, although she has no issues with what we like to call her 'inner circle' (me, her dad, her grannies, her uncle and maybe 3 friends). She has always been very clingy but I have not thought anything of it, just thought it to be her personality. Her language is ok but not as good as her peers. She can act like you're not there if she doesn't want to interact (especially so with strangers). But her eye contact and physical affection is good with her inner circle.
However, she has this habit where she will stand still, stare into space and suck in her breath, all the while flapping her hands. Sometimes she circles the living room on tiptoes before stopping and flapping her hands with the same breath sucking and staring. If it weren't for this I wouldn't be here asking for advice... I would just assume she was a reticent child. Could this be 'stimming' behaviour? Do you think I should get her assessed?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. If I am missing something (like autism) I want to be on the ball for her and make sure we are not letting her down in any way, as I have read the earlier the diagnosis the better.
Thanking you all in advance :)
