Hi I'm new

Hi there

I'm new to all these but guess I'm looking to introduce myself and hopefully gain support and advice through sharing experiences and worries with others who are in similar situations.

I'm a single mum of 2 children a my eldest is a boy and 12, and my youngest is a girl who is 5.

My daughter currently has a "working diagnosis of verbal dsypraxia" I'm not entirly sure what the working bit means as yet? But suspect it's a label for the time being while we sit and wait and see what happens with her development.

I personally believe she is on the spectrum and am currently exhausted with trying to manage difficult behaviour with her and parent my son. Who now is very open about disliking his sister and that I let her get away with things etc, don't punish her. Trying to work from an "all behaviour is meanigful"perspective is not conjusive to a happy home right now.

Anyone out there get what I mean? Got tips etc.

Any suggestions as to what to do now in terms of do I go bk to the GP ask for further assessments?

We currently see the Peaditrician yearly but have asked to see her sooner as feel as I'm losing control.

Thanks Undecided

  • hi - welcome to the forums.  I think you're right to push things with the professionals, so don't let up on that.  Sometimes we have to keep at it to get where we need to be.  I think you're probably right in presuming a working diagnosis may be a holding position while they carry on assessing your daughter.  If you haven't, then have a look around the posts.  You'll find lots of useful info.  Also posters will respond soon with advice + understanding.  As you'll have seen there's also lots of info accessed via the home page.  Please also have a look there if you haven't already done so.  bw
