A hello from me!

Hi, i have just found this diss is soon forum and feel relieve that I now have somewhere to ask questions, get advice and support :-) I have a 4 year old son, who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2.4yrs. He is a very social little man with limited speech, he has only just started to say a few words, although he has a habit at the moment of repeating the phrase 'are you alright' constantly like he is on repeat. He has an obsession with blinds and will climb kitchen work surfaces to get to then wherever he is! He has an infectious giggle that makes everyone smile. I had concerns at the age of 8 months that he wasn't developing in certain areas, he was an extremely unsettled baby and suffered from really bad reflux, so the first year was very hard for myself and his Dad who left when he was 18 months. I pushefloor a referral at 11 months which was given and he then saw a paediatrition every few months until he turned 18 months and was then formally assessed and diagnosed. He now attends a specialist childrens centre who h I fought hard to get him a place at as it is so amazing. He receives speech and Lang therapy, occupational therapy and music therapy there once a week and also has five sessions a week there which he loves. My next step is choosing a suitable school for him so will be keen to get advice in this area :-)

  • hi Bright eyes, welcome to the forum.  He sounds a lovely little fella.  You've done so well to get an early diagnosis + some services to help him.  You also right to highlight the importance of a suitable school.  Has he got a statement of educational needs? (look on the nas homepage for info).  bw
