Newbie...

Hi there

I am mummy to Adam, 7 years old and going through ASD testing, we have had the initial hospital visit to assess him, tpaediatricians with a different doctor and now have the long wait to actually start 'the testing'.

Adam is a lovely little boy and I have two other older boys, I am married to Andrew and I work full time, Andrew is a stay at home dad.

The doctor is going towards high functioning autism, we have already put a visual timetable in place, aswell as lists and clocks, as Adam does not know what to do and likes to know what time we are doing things.

i would love some advice for older siblings, how to cope etc, as well as any tips, and just to know others are out there.

thanks

  • Hi, I am in the process of high functioning autism/aspergers diagnosis, although I am 30 years old.  I am so pleased that your son is being looked at now, and am hopeful that his dx will bring a lot more needed support to him and allow for him to excell in areas of his curiculum.

All I can think for siblings, is education of what your son's diagnosis will mean, what makes him tick differently, and how to avoid meltdowns and anxious behaviour, before it starts.  There must also be groups desigen for young people in this situation, whether that be a carers, or other support group, but definitely worth looking into.

There are plenty of people here to help you, even if I was not possibly one of them today :)
